There is an innovation at the Star in the first-rer of the Gau- mont-British picture starring the (sixteen-year-old actress Nova Pil- beam. "Little Friend" shows us this clever girl as the daughter of parents drifting towards divorce.j and her gradual comprehension of an approaching domestic crisis is cleverly shown. The most telling scene is where the girl is cross- examined in the witness box at the divorce hearing. She shows a great desi of promise and the film is advised just to see her.
Matheson Lang and Lydia Sherwood are the parents, with Arthur Mezgetson (who recently married the American films Shirley Grey) Allan Cadell, and Aynesworth, Jean Jimmy Hanley the boy. The file debut of Nova Pilbeam (now at work in a film of the life of Lady Jane Grey) is interesting and, even if the picture is not wholly satisfactory, it has the merit of testing Miss Pilbeam's ability thoroughly.
