DIFFICULTIES OF A CENTRE THREE QUARTER WONDERFUL MATCH CAMBRIDGE BOAT FOR THE MANY UNJUSTIFIED

PLAYER

WETHERED WINS GOLF FINAL AT RYE

AITKEN'S VERY GOOD GAME

London, January 23. FOR the second year in succession and for the fifth time in all, Roger Wethered won the President's Putter here, beating W.HH. Aitken in the final by 2 and 1 Wethered is more than an accomplished golfer. He is a wonderful match player and has the curious and useful gift of making his opponents both look and feel less good than they really are.

One would hardly think when watching Wethered saunter in a detached, almost absent manner, down the fairway that so mild an exterior concealed such demoniac qualities. Even his errors are well timed and do not encourage his victims, nor dismay the maker of them.

For much of the final round he was not quite in touch with his putter. The doubtful ones would not drop, but when the pinch came it was Aitken who made the mistake, small enough individually but each one a disaster against an inexorable foe.
