FLANDIN'S OPPOSITION TO "PEOPLE'S FRONT”
-CHINA MAIL- SPECIAL
Paris, To-day.
The Sarraut Cabinet held its first meeting yesterday. The programme has not yet been worked out, but as far as foreign policy is con- cerned the new Foreign Minister, M. Flandin, has stated dearly that no change will take place. M. Flandin declared himself to be emphatically an opponent of the "People's Front," which is hos- tile to M. Laval's sanctionist policy.
M. Flandin said: "I should like to emphasise that I have never had any difference of opinion with M. Laval. Sometimes we have held different views about the methods of procedure, but that was all that divided us One proof of this is that when I was Premier I always worked hand in hand with M. Laval There- fore I shall continue in a straight line the same policy of peace, reconciliation and collective safety within the framework of the League of Nations."
Subsequently the Democratic Union, which had at first shown marked disapproval of M. Flandin's action in joining M. Sarrant's! Cabinet, passed a motion approving of the Sarrant Government | by 36 votes to 16.-Trans-Ocean Service.
