SERVICES' & VOLUNTEER CAMPS CURTAIL SOCCER PROGRAMME
PENALTIES, AND WHY THEY ARE MISSED
IMPORTANCE OF SHOT IS RESPONSIBLE
"DEAD" BALL KICKING AN ART FOLLOWING the glut of penalties-awarded,
and missed, in the local soccer League dur- ing last week-end, the following article by A. Leslie Knighton, the manager of the Chelsea Football Club, fully illustrates how a "spot" kick, although made much easier to-day owing to the fact that the goalkeeper is not allowed to move until the kick is taken, is so often missed.
The proportion of goals from penalty-kicks is little more than one in four. George Mills, the Chelsea centre-forward, joined a long list of disintinguished players this season when he missed a penalty kick. That cost us a point against West Bromwich on September 21.
3RD. DIVISION
PROGRAMME
It is often urged that a pen- alty ought always to mean a goal, especially since the law has been altered in favour of the kicker by making the goal- keeper stand still on his line

BUT INTERESTING TIES DOWN FOR DECISION
S. CHINA PLAYING ON SUNDAY THIS week-end's League soccer programme has been curtailed owing to Service and Volun- teer Camps, several Clubs being so seriously affected by vacancies that they were forced to apply for postponements.
Although six encounters have been postponed, there is still a fairly interesting programme, both to-morrow and on Sunday. The Club and Fusiliers should provide exciting and cleau soccer, while the Recreio and Athletic should provide thrills at Caroline Hill
On Sunday the two South China teams, “A” and “B”, will be seen in action simultaneously, the senior side meeting the Lincolns at Sookunpoo, while the juniors are entertaining Stone- cutters. St. Joseph's are down to meet Lyemun and here an
evenly contested match should result.
