Over 50 village shops were en- tirely gutted by a fire which-start- ed in the Hai Kee Paper Shop in Lin Tong Street at 10 pm. yes- terday.

The Fire Brigades from Canton City, were immediately despatched to the scene- but, owing to the lack of water pipe supply system, great diffenity was experienced in con trolling the fire which was burn- ing furiously. Fire hoses had to be connected to a fire-float and re-; connected with the nearest water supply pipe line.
