The truth of the matter is, I suppose, that golf is "more" "mental" at some times than others, increasing at peak periods to the best part of 100 per cent. A man, for instance who can go round time after time in 95, will take every bit of 110 for no other reason than that in his partner's hip pocket is a card with his own name on it and a pencil waiting to mark down 1 his score.
