The second day of the election passed off quietly, but at Schnelz, many electors complain- ed, that they were unable to vote. Journalists touring the polling stations received an uproari- ous welcome from the population, which held im- promptu pro-German demonstrations under the eyes of the silent Lithuanian police.
The openness of the demonstrations indicate that the popu- lace is not in any state of political suppression by the Lithuan- ians, but it affords impressive evidence of the strength of the pro-German feeling in the Memel territory. Na
Meanwhile speculation has been aroused by the unexpected arrival at Koenigsberg of Herr Hitler, accompanied by General von Blomberg and General von Fritsch, but the rumour that Herr Hitler will deliver an important speech at Tilset, on the German side of the Memel River, to-day, lacks official confirmation Reuter.
