Probably the finest race seen in the V.R.C. bath for a num- ber of seasons, the 100 Yards Free Style was one big thrill from start to finish, and the result was in doubt until the last length, when the holder streaked away to a new bath and Colony mark of 672/5 secs.".

Completely missing the wall, however, the Chinese challenger was conse quently left about two yards in the rear. He nevertheless beat Gittins who came third, by a comfortable margin.

READ SUCCEEDS MEAKIN

(By "Rover")

THE Lincolnshire Regiment, which commenc- ed last season's soccer programme with a tidal rush of success, but which cracked up at the crucial stage owing to reliefs breaking up the team, have practically no newcomers for the forthcoming season.

Unfortunately, the Lincolns will not be with us for very long, as they will leave the Colony in January for another station. Those of us who have witnessed their performances will miss the tricky runs of Ridley, and the bustling methods of Higgins, while Baldry, who played for the Colony against. Shanghai in 1933, will also be sorely missed.

With the departure of Meakin for Home. the Lincolns will rely upon Read, their reserve custodian, between the sticks this coming season.

Ash and Edmundson, who have performed yeoman service For the Lincolns in defence, will again be seen together, while
