MANILA ARMY-NAVY "Y'S" DISTINCTION PENTATHLON AQUATIC CONTEST VICTORY

SWIMMER SHATTERS TWO TIMES

༔ ར

Manila, August 8. THE Fort William McKinley Army YMCA. has just been notified that their team won the 1935. Army-Navy Y.M.C.A. Radio Swimming Pentathlon. This annual event is one of the most unique competitions in the Y.M.C.A.'s varied programme of athletic events.

It is open to all Army-Navy YMCA's of the world. Each team races in five events in its own pool, and radios, cables, or telegraphs the results to the headquarters of the Army-Navy Y.M.C.A. in New York City There a committee receives the results and announces the championship team.

A three-year cup is offered for competition by the Penta- thlon Committee. It has been held in Honolulu for a number of years, but will be shipped to Fort William McKinley for the first time in the near future.

The Fort William McKinler team this year grossed 22,884 points, the highest score ever TWO YOUNG GIRLS FINISH IN made by any team since the

Eight other entrants, including four boys, were exhausted before the finish and took refuge in ac- companying boats. The winners will probably undergo intensive traming as Olympic possibilities.

GREAT COLT RETIRES AFTER TRIUMPH

WINDSOR LAD'S WIN IN THE "ECLIPSE"

FINE STUD CAREER PROMISED

(By Hotspur) -

London, July 20.

FEW horses have ever left the Turf for the stud under fairer conditions than has Windsor Lad, who ended a racing career of the highest distinction by winning the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park yesterday. The pub- lic paid him its last tribute by round after round of applause when he had passed the judge a gallant winner by three parts of a length and the same from the Aga Khan's Theft and Mr. Arthur Dewar's Fair Trial

"There was such cheering as is seldom heard after the Eclipse, with all the great finishes it has produced such as the epic struggle of Ard Patrick and Sceptre, the dead-heat of Lemberg and Neil Gow, and the stirring contest between Lally

and Sancy.

Yesterday's was one of those spontaneous tributes that the public never omits to pay to superlative merit. in a racehorse, and the cheering was renewed when Mr. Benson led his horse into the unsaddling enclosure....
