LINCOLNS PRIVATE

IN COURT d.

Sequel To Death Of Ex-Police Guard

MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE

The preliminary hearing of the case in which Cyril Walliara Crompton, 29, a private of C Com- pany, 1st Ba. the Lincolnshire Regiment is charged with the manslaughter of Haider Khan, an ex-Police Guard. in Shanghai Street on July 19. was begun yes- terday afternoon before Mr. E L Wynne-Jones at the Kowloon Magistracy,

The case

for the Crown was presented by Mr. J. A. Fraser, Assistant Attorney General

The prosecution alleged that Crompton. to a certain extent under the influence of drink, was riding a bicycle when he fell. The 'Indian helped him to his feet. whereupon he was assaulted by Crompton.

Medical evidence showed that; the cause of death was a large blood clot on the surface of thei brain. The deceased suffered from chronic bronchitis and gen-: eral debility, but these. in Dr. Thomas's opinion, did not in any way, cause death.
