London, To-day. All the rumours that England had lifted the embargo on the supplies of arms and munitions! to Abyssinia were dispersed by the Foreign Se- cretary's reply to a question from the leader of the opposition, Mr. George Lansbury, in the House of Commons yesterday afternoon.
Sir Samuel Hoare stated: "The transit of arms for Abys ainia through British territory or protectorates will be per- mitted under the treaty of 1930. The French Government puts the same interpretation on the obligations under this treaty.
The granting of beences for the export of munitions from England is another matter. Since the Government is doing all it can to contribute to the solution of the unfortunate dispute and does not desire to prejudice the situation in any way, no export licences for arms destined for Abyssinia will be issued."
