GERMAN'S IMPRESSIVE DEBUT
(By "Base Line")
SOME very good tennis was seen at King's
Park yesterday when E. C. Fincher and E. F. Fincher struck the top of their form to win all three of their games against the Chinese Recreation Club, lowering the colours of Ho Ka-lan and W. C. Hung for the first time this season, although the champions retained their unbeaten record by a 6 sets to 3 margin.
There were several interesting factors, the outstanding of which was the debut of T: Hesse: a left-handed German player. He gave a most impressive display and, on yesterday's form, looks like being a permanent member of the team.
HESSE PARTNERED OPPENHEIM IN THE ABSENCE OF A. E. P. GUEST, WHO STOOD DOWN OWING TO A STRENUOUS WEEK-END, AND THE TWO OF THEM GAYE AN EXCELLENT SHOW, COMBIN AND ING WELL AND THOROUGHLY RATTLING LEE WALTONG .LUK DING-CHEUNG IN THEIR OPENING ENCOUNTER, ALTHOUGH THEY WENT DOWN ET 6—3.

LATE GOAL DECIDES ISSUE
(By "Crawl")
A VERY close water-polo encounter marked the opening of the European Y. M. CA. Polo season, when they just beat the Lincoln- shire Regiment by an only goal scored during a melee in the shallow end of the pool in the second half.
The "Y" were very poor and nothing like the team which went through the HKLAS.A. League in an overwhelming manner, they were lucky to win yesterday, although the sol- diers were by no means dangerous."--
LACK OF PRACTICE, COMBINATION, AND SHOOTING POWERS LOST THEM COUNTLESS OPPORTUNITIES, WHILE THE LINCOLNS MADE NO EFFORTS AT DIRECT SCORING BUT WERE CONTENT TO ATTEMPT TO VOLLEY THE BALL INTO THE NET, AND HERE THEY
WERE TOO CLOSELY MARKED.
The game, which was wit-
