The Sunday papers deal at considerable length with the Anglo-German naval discus- sions. The diplomatic correspondent of the “Ob- server" dclares that in the conversation which took place on Friday between Herr von Ribben- trop and Sir Samuel Hoare a fundamental agreement was reached. What still remains to be settled consists mainly of details, mostly of a technical character.

The present deliberation, says the Observer, consists chiefly of the determination of the means whereby more comprehen- sive agreements can be reached. In London. continues the Obsc- ver, one was ander no delusion that acceptance of the German proposals meant violation of the Treaty of Versailles. but this fact is now only of academic significance. The agreement reached in Stresa and subsequently confirmed at Geneva clear- by proceeded from, the assumption that Section V of the Treaty" of Versailles had already expired, so that according to the Bri- tish view no contradiction exists between the fundamental prin- | ciples adopted at Stress and the new Anglo-German naval derstanding.
