CHENGTU.dispatches stated yesterday that two squadrons of Nanking bombers had arrived there for service in view of the fact that the Com- munists under Hsu Hsiang-chien are but 50 miles above Chengtu.

The last line of defence is Hsintu, which is about 15 miles above Chengtu, at which General Liu Hsiang has arrived to direct operations. Heavy fighting is expected in the next 24 hours for the capture of Chengtu, although General Liu is moving up all available reinforcements.
General Chiang Kai-shek, Chairman of the Military Affairs Commission, flew yesterday from Kwelyang to Chengtu to cope with the critical situation. ~
