ENCOUNTER

(By "STICKS")

POSSESSING superior speed the 8th Destroyer Flotilla easiy defeated the Hong Kong Hoe- "key Club by four clear goals after being only one goal in the lead at the interval. The Club. played only ten men in the first half, but in the -second A. E. R. Wood filled the right-wing posi-

tion.

:

The feature of the game was the clever play of Newsome, the naval pivot. He allowed Senior" very little rope and aided his forwards in their every movement.

Baines, the naval custodian, played a very 'sound game and pulled his team out of many dangerous positions with powerful and well directed kicks. Only on one occasion did he miskich, but Senior was 'off-side when he netted the ball. Baines was very cool, even when heavily pressed and always met Senior with a sound pair of pads.

INEFFECTIVE ENGLAND BACKS

(By V. G. DAVIES)'

London, February 11. BOUGHTON, for the second time, came to Eng- land's rescue on Saturday, and on this occa- sion won the match against Ireland at Twicken- ham by kicking four tine goals, three of them penalties, and the other a conversion from near the touch-line.

In response, Ireland scored only one try, which left England ahead by the exact number of points which Boughton had scored. If they had taken their chances, however, England must have won very comfortably...

As it was, Ireland may deem themselves unlucky to have. lost by such a wide margin. After being only five points down at half-time they, started the second half with a magnificent
