EPIC OCEAN DUEL

Proposed 3,000 Mile Atlantic Race

TO FORM PART OF KING'S JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS:

London, Jan. 24. Sponsored by the Canadian High Commissioner, Howard G. Fergu son, a group of amateur yachts- men here are seeking a British backer and cash prizes for a pro-g posed 3000-mile trans-atlantic race between the Bluenose and Ger trude L. Thebaud, flestest of Can- adian and United states, fishing schooners.

The proposed sailing duel, which would be one of the feature of the King's jubilee, drew nearer a real- [ity when it became known that the Royal Ocean Racing Club might [sponsor the race.

1]

The Bluenose's skipper, Capt Angus Walters, already has sald he is willing to pit his boat, holder [of the National Fishermen's Trophy, against her United States rival in, a race across the ocean, and Capt. Ben Pine of the Ger trude L. Thebauld, is willing to accept the challenge.

Holder For 13 Years

If the necessary financial back- ing can be arranged, and the race is staged, the two yachts would spend five months barnstorming through British ports and per- haps race back to America to stage a real official battle for the cup the Bluenose has held for 13 years.

If the latter race is held this year, it will be the first time in more than three years that the Ca-
