SUFFOLK'S NARROW WIN IN FLEET BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP

WALES FAVOURED TO

WIN RUGBY

SATURDAY'S CLASH WITH ENGLAND

'VARSITY MATCH REVIEWED

(By Capt. E. I. M. Barrett)

It is always interesting building up one's International rugby side but he would be a bold man who predicted the English side at the moment. It appears to be in the melting pot as so many of the old brigade such as Owen Smith, Burland and Gerrard will probably be passed over.

THERE IS SOME GOOD MATERIAL UP NORTH AND IT WOUD NOT BE SURPRISING TO SEE THE SIDE CONSIST- ING MAINLY OF NORTH AND MIÐLAND PLAYERS.

Scotland too, are having trouble in picking a representative leam, and I look to Wales to romp home with the International Cham- pionship for 1934-35 unless the Welsh Selection Committee goes com- pletely off the books as it did not very long ago.

There is a wealth of first rate; outsides, who, behind a typical Welsh pack, should be able to run through anything the others can put up against them.

No Touring Sides

There are rumours of promising prospecta in Ireland and, of course one may expect almost anything from Ireland. Thank goodness there are no touring er foreign teams al Home this season to rake up jealousies and foment interna. tional hatreds.

We are, for once, to be left alone to play the best of all ball games

BERWICK DEFEATED

BAD DECISIONS MAR PROGRAMME

A. B. HESTON'S GAME DISPLAY

(By "RINGSIDER")'.

The semi-finals and finals of the China Fleet Amateur Boxing Championships and later-Unit Team Competition, were held last night at the China Fleet Club Theatre. The programme was fea- tured by some very bad decisions, which evoked the anger of sup- porters who hooted and barracked.

THE INTER-UNIT TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP WAS DECID- ED ON THE LAST FIGHT OF THE NIGHT, THE FINAL OF THE WELTERWEIGHTS, WHICH GAVE H.M.S. SUFFOLK A VERY NARROW WIN OF ONE POINT OVER THE BERWICK. WHILE FOUR POINTS SEPARATED THE BERWICK FROM THE ADVENTURE, WHICH TOOK THIRD PLACE.

The programme was witnessed by a packed house, including Hin Excellency the Commander-in-Chief, Admiral Sir Frederick Charles Dreyer, K.C.B., C.B.E., and Captain Errol Manners of H.M.S. Suffolk, who is Chairman of the China Fleet Boxing Association.
