SHIPPING STRIKE INEVITABLE Compromise Attempt By Owners Fails

MIDNIGHT TO-MORROW WILL SEE WALK-OUT

Attempts at a compromise be- tween the China Coast Officers' Guild and certain Chinese ship- owners were made yesterday but without sueSELS.

Mr. Peter Sin, representing a number of Chinese ahipowners, wrote suggesting a meeting with Capt. W. E. Kirby, Secretary of the Guild. A subsequent meeting was held, at which a suggestion made to the Guild by Mr. Sin as follows

That the owners who were not signatories of the Arbitration Award, in consideration of their: signing the Guilde Agreement to recognise the Award, be given six months' grace; that they pay the same amount as they are pay- ing at present, and pay the Arbi- tration Award rate us from July 1, 1935."

The suggestion was made on be half of the owners of the following ships: Tai Lee, On Lee, Tol Shan, Anjou, Chuen Chow, Lee Hong, Sun Nam Hoi, Ting Sang and Yuet On.
