WIN AT TENNIS Pearce & Miss Hancock Lose In Straight Sets

SOCCER PLAYER POACHES BADLY AND IS ERRATIC

A very closely contested game was witnessed in the Colony Mized Doubles Lawn Tennis Champion- ship yesterday when Lee Wai-tong, the well-known South China foot- baller, and Miss Tso entered the Second Round by defeating T. A. Pearce, the Interport cricketer, and Miss H Hancock by 6-4, 8-6. The winners will now meet L. Goldman and Miss R. Hancock, a very much favoured pair.

Lee Wai-tong did not play his usual steady game, and ponched badly throughout the contest.

The C.R.C. pair went into a 4-2 lead; but Pearce and Miss Hancock, drew level at 4-all.

Lee Erratic

Miss Tso was playing a better game than her, opposite number, and won the ninth game on her ser- vice.

Lce at this stage became erratic, and it was only his partner's steady play which enabled them to take the tenth game for the set.

Play was very even in the second set and the games were won alter- nately until the score stood at 6

Pto H Pearce, who was the HUTCHISON OUTSTANDING games to 5 for the C.R.C. pair.

Queen's Regimental goalkeeper, will be an invaluable acquisition

to the Saints for they have always been very weak between the sticks, and, on Pearce's repu tation and record, they now have probably one of the finest cus- todians in the Colony.

IN SCRAPPY RUGBY

(By "REFEREE")

Pearce then served and faulty play by his partner saw them lose the set and match.
