By GEOFFREY SIMPSON
E. Hare, the youngest of Britain's, international lawn tennis players, is burning. the midnight oil-it, as you might think, in a round of gaiety, but in hard, laborious study.
Hare is 19, and he has ambitions
to make a position for himself in the real estate and auctioneering business.
So he is swetting for his first examination in six months time, and has been so secretive about It that few of his tennis friends are aware of his new plan,

L.T.A.'s Motion
H
[ARES decision to leave the sports goods business might be connected by some with the Lawn Tonnis Association's de- clared intention of barring from amateur tournaments any persons No employed.
This motion comes before the annual meeting next month, but whether it will be carried is an- other matter.
However, Hare began poring over his books long before the LT.A. made their announcement,
Perhaps he took inspiration from Pat Wheatley, who took a similar step some years ago and has done so well that he is now junior part- ner of a West End Arm of estate agents.

MRS. KAYLL & MRS. PARKS OFFER CHALLENGE
STRONG K.C.C. PAIR
(By "Referee").
THE draw for the Ladies' Open Doubles Tennis Championship took place at the United Ser- vices Recreation Club yesterday evening, and has produced several interesting encounters.
Mrs. Kayll and Mrs. Parks who are strong contenders for this year's title, meet Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Finlay in the first round, while Miss Dalziel and Miss M. Griffiths, the Kowloon Cric- ket Club pair and also strong challengers for the title, meel the winners of this match.
CORRESPONDENCE.
At the bottom half of the draw, Miss Rumjahn and Mrs. Chu
£ Chun-chiu who constitute a very strong pair, are likely to meet the Bistera in the third Hancock round, and I very much doubt if they will survive this encounter.

SMALL SHIPS DEFEAT CLUB "A" FIFTEEN
Scrappy Game Seen At Happy Valley
WEAK TACKLING FEATURED
(By "REFEREE"). Faulty tackling among the backs and bad heeling by the second row forwards, was primarily respon sible for the Club “A” rugby fifteen being surprised by the Small Ships, comprised of Destroyers, Sub- marines and Sloops, who emerged winners by two tries and a penalty god (9 points) to a try (3 points) yesterday on the Club ground.
The Club, who fielded a fairly strong fifteen, commenced very favourably, but within a few min- uton of the interval they. cracked up badly, the pack heeling badly and the centre three-quarters hanging on to the ball instead of opening up the play.
OC-
Lammert played a very good game at full back and on casion showed a great burst of speed.
Jones, on the right wing, could improve his passing, but Archer played up to scratch and sent out some lovely passes.
'Griffithe Great Game McGilchrist was playing below form, and hung on to the ball when a pass might have resulted in a score.. Turner, as a result of play- ing outside to McGilchrist, very rarely saw the ball.
Griffiths played one of his best games this season, and his runs were a feature of the game. He often left the Navy defence aprend- eagled, but has yet to rectify his |wild passing.-
