SEARCHING CHURCH REGISTERS
Germans And Americans Seek Pedigrees
EXPENSIVE WORK
One of the curious aidelights on the Hitler regime has been the invasion of the quiet alcoves of the Society of Genealogists in Malet Place by Germans in search of their. Aryan peligree.
"Nine, out of ten don't know the maiden names of their grand- mothers," said Mrs. Blomfield, serre. tary of the society.
"Others know only that their grandparents or great-grandparents married in London during a certain year. As there are over 600 Lon-! don churches this makes the work very difficult and often expensive.
"Inquiries may have to be maile at hundreds of churches, entailing a fee at each church. In some cases record agents must be employed. They may do months of work before unearthing the necessary data.
"The record of marriage at un Anglican church is considered suf- ficient evidence of non-contamina- tian.
"Most of these Germans belong to the professional classes. We have had a good many inquiries from English officials."

This statement was made by Mrs.Į Meriel Knowling, wife of Capt. H. Mrs. Knowling stated in evidence that having seen the film she be lieved that the character Natasha was fictitious and could not be as- sociated with Princess Yousoupoff. Court Denials
