London, To-day. Alec Hyde Lay (K.C.C.), the Colony Open Singles Lawn Bowls champion, won one of his two singles matches yesterday at the Paddington Club to give Hong Kong her only victory in the Bri- tish Empire Games to date.
He recorded his success by 21 shots to 19 over Keys, of New Zealand, in his second match of the day, after sustaining a heavy defeat at the hands of Macdonald (Canada) by 21 shots to 5.
In the other matches Hong Kong did not prove so successful. R. F. L. Rapley (K.B.G.C.) and H. G. Cooper (K.D.R.C) losing their pairs match against Hutchison, and Langford (Canada), and J. V. Ramsay (K.D.R.C.), J. S, McGown, (K.D.R.C.), H. G. Sherriff (K.B.G.C.) and H. Nish (K.B.G.C.) losing their rinks. matches against the Canadian and New Zealand representatives.
