OBJECTIVE REACHED AFTER THIRD TRIAL

The week-end run of the Hong Kong Cycling Club was carried out as scheduled yesterday, des- pite heavy rain which fell with- out cessation throughout the

whole trip to Sha-lau-kok and back. This was the third timel the Club had scheduled to reach Sha-tau-kok, but on each previ- ous trip misfortune befell the riders, with the result that it was not until this attempt that the border town was reached.

Surprisingly, in face of the evi- dent bad weather to follow, a stronger muster than usual turned up at the Yaumati Ferry by 9.30 an, when 1. A. Anning led the party via Shatin to Tai-po against a strong wind, and with heavy down- pours endeavouring to check the en- thusiasm of the hardriders.

At the latter place a short halt was made, but 11.30 m. found the riders in their saddles again and on the way to Funling. The last 6% miles stretch to Sha-tau-kok WAS full into the teeth of the wind, with | the result that the party was a little atraggled when the town was reach- ed.

Explorations of Sha-thu-kok had

to be curtailed by reason of both weather and the curiosity of the Chinese soldiers.

Happy Interlude

Though the rain continued the party enjoyed a "bright interval"i through the hospitality of the St. John Ambulance Brigade nurses at the roadside dressing station.

The shelter and refreshments pro- vided were greatly appreciated, and it was a merry collection of riders which commenced the return trip at

2.30 p.m.

The expected assistance from the wind on the return journey failed to
