GENERAL NOTICES.

BRIDGE, NOTES

THE CHINA MAIL, MONDAY, JULY 23, 1934.

A Double Grand Coup.

by Ely Culbertson.

The Grand Coup in Bridge, which involves the ruffing of high carde in one hand with superflu- ous trumpa in the other, is in its essence aimply a trump reducing play, the purpose of which is not to be forced, at the end, to ruff unnecessarily, thus placing the lead in the wrong hand and forc- ing the Declarer to lead up to o minor tenace in trumpa in the hand of an opponent at the right.

Mr. T D. Owen-Turner af Van- courver, B.C., recently sent me an interesting example of a hand played as a Double Grand Coup.

In other words, the Declarer was twice forced to reduce his trump holding so that he might hold the same number as his opponent on the right at the eleventh trick and at the same time have the lead in. the Dummy so that the opponents' | itrumpa might be captured,
