Questioned in the House of Com mons yesterday regarding the fir- ing on British naval officers on the island of Samos, on Monday, re- sulting in the death of one officer and the wounding of another, the Foreign Secretary, Sir John Simon, said that he had no information beyond what the Admiralty ismed on Monday.

He emphasised the fact that the Turkish soldiers waved the boat away. The boat turned, but the soldiers opened fire.

Learning of the incident, Sir John sent for the Turkish Am bassador to whom he detailed the circumstances and stressed the gravity of the incident. The Ambassador promised to. report to his Government.

The British Ambassador to.. Turkey, Sir Percy Loraine, had been instructed to approach the Turkish Government.
