MAYOR ARRESTED FOR BURGLARY

Ideal Citizen's Lapse. After 17 Years.

Belgrade.

Janjo Koratch. 65-year-old Mayor of Gornjoselski. in Yugo- slavia. was the Ideal Citizen.

For 17 years he held the post

of Major. He was also the chief district magistrate.

His honesty was 2 byword. His record of public service was one of which any man might be proud.

Koratch was a wealthy man, too. Before the war he lived in America, where he made a smáli fortune.

For many years the police of Gornjoselski had been baffled by

a series of burglaries which seem- ed to be the work of the same hand.

But they had no clue to the burglar's identity.

A few nights ago a police pat- rol was passing through a field when they came upon a party of men digging a trench.

With the voice of authority one of the men told them to go away, It was the Mayor.

And the police were on the point of obeying him when one; of them happened to look in the trench. He saw a number of large packing cases.

When the cases were opened
