After 30 years of educational and public beneficial work, Mr. Alfred Morris, Headmaster of King's Col lege, is to retire next month.
Formerly Headmaster of the Sal Ying Pun School, Mr. Morris, for
the past 16 years has devoted much
of his time to charity work, more
especially in connection with the St.
John Ambulance Society of which he is Commissioner.
He has been instrumental in in- stituting free nursing centres in
the Colony, organising station and elinice both in Hong Kong and the New Territories and. has given in- valuable assistance to the sick and poor.
Mr. Morris celebrates his birthday on June 18.

In 1932 Mr. Glyn Philpot'a piece of sculpture "The Guardian of the Flame" was rejected by the jury of the Royal Academy; last year the president and council asked him to refrain from exhibiting at Burling- ton House his picture The Great Pan."
Mr. Philpot obviously is not popu- Iar with his fellow academicians, though it is difficult to see what they could find to object to either in respect of content or execution in the artist's work.
The Great Pan" is now included in Mr. Philpot's one-man exhibition
at the Leicester Galleries, Leicester- square. It is a canvas of imposing| dimensions, and is described in the catalogue as follows:
The Great Pan, in an altitude of kingly ease, rests in the centre of the earth. He breathes, and from his breast springs a wingedj angel-daemon, From his clench- ed hand gushen enter, the re- freshment of the senses. In the shade of his green garment lovers | are united.
