A RECORD CROWD OF NEARLY 4.000 SAW THE SOUTH WALES BORDERERS CARRY OFF THE FIRST DIVISION SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE FIRST TIME WHEN THEY DEFEATED ST. JOSEPH'S IN THE PLAY-OFF ON THE KOWLOON FOOTBALL CLUB GROUND YESTERDAY BY THREE GOALS TO NIL. THE BORDERERS WERE RUNNERS-UP TO SOUTH CHINA LAST YEAR.
`Fortey netted all three goals for the Borderers, the score at the interval being one goal to nil.
Except for one period in the latter part of the first half, the Borderers had the game well in hand, and their brilliant defence
gave the Saints 'no chance.
Although defeated, the St. Joseph's, who were making their first bid for the championship in the senior division, were quite the equal of the military team. The forwards, however, "dis appointed, being much too slow on the ball in the penalty area. During their one and only effort, however, in the latter part of the first half, the Saints completely dominated the game and bad luck robbed them of many goals which would have put them | comfortably in the lead.
