NE of the lessons that everyone learns sooner or later in this simple solutions. To most of us this fact begins to present it- self in our early days when we sit on the back bench wrestling to solve some complicated mathematical conundrum with the aid of graphs, logaritkams, cube rools and such like and find in the end that the answer may readily be found by means of a simple equation.
Working on this principle, I believe that, through a casual conversation with a friend yesterday, I have hit upon the solution of one of the major difficulties with which golf in its modern spe- cialised form is surrounded. It concerns that ever-present scourge the standard scratch score scheme.
