The Colonial Once have nounced that in view of the econo- mic dificulties of the people, and particularly the agricultural classes, of Cyprus they have decid- ed to despatch a Financial Com- missioner to the Colony with the following terms of reference. -

To examine and report on the| financial position and policy of the Government of Cyprus in relation to the economic resources and the prospects of the Colony, and in particular to advise as to the de- velopment of those resources, and as to any changes, which may be necessary or desirable, in the existing basis of revenue, and in the expenditure on serivce."

Sir Ralph Oakden, formerly of the Indian Civil Service, has ac- cepted the invitation to undertake this enquiry, and leaves for Cyprus next month.
