Evan Rowlands, the Fourth Officer of the British steam- ship. "Dartford," saved the life of a seaman of the Greek steamer. "Meandross," which was sunk in a collision off St. Catherine's Point, Isle of Wiglu, during Monday night's log.

Hearing a cry in the water, Rowlands seized a line and jumped overboard. He man- aged to find the man despite the thick fog, and putting the line round him kept him afloat until both were hauled aboard.
