BRAIDED "FROGS” AND BALL FRINGE

Dressmakers seem to be having recourse to many quaint decora- tions from bygone days. No, one now looks with disdain at Vic- torian ball-curtain-fringes, or or- namentations in braid and guimpe. Such things can be employed in a happy medley to produce a latest novelty which yet retains its old- world air.

One used to associate fringes, braide and gulmpes with hideous- ly heavy borders. To-day braided "frogs" can mingle with a high quality of black astrakhan, and adorn the short hussar-like jacket of rifle-green, or all-black broad- cloth.

A costume recently seen was purple poplin with black wool spota, cut in 1880 polonaise form, bordered with a narrow guimpe in the two colours, The modern touch was added by silver fox, n red ribbon beret, and red and black. pumps.

FOR SPRING

Cumberland Tweeds.

LIGHT-WEIGHT MATERIALS AND UNUSUAL COLOURS

Unusual colours and light-weight Lextures are a feature of the new Cumberland twoeds fashioned into frocks and ensembles by

Capt. Molyneux for the Riviera, where drawing cover for early spring fashions is considered great sport during the last phase of the win- ter season.

These new colours are fresh and gay without being too vivid, and they can be imagined in the fore- ground of blooming mimosa trees as well as Mediterraneaл acna. There is a new coral-pink rather deep in tone, a green verging on the strata sometimes seen through turquoise matrix... and a blue that is neither sky nor duck-eg. but just between the two.

Light noinette is a new tone in beige, and this is worked up to "show off" next a small brown and grelga *chocked tweed mlx- ture which supplfes a lining to Л half-length cost of plain beige lain. age worn over a plain lainage dress with brown buttons and belt Solo topes, however, are a more
