J. C. GIBBS TO RETIRE

THE CHINA MAIL.

England's Fastest Wing Three-quarter.

CAPPED SEVEN-TIMES

J. C. Gibbs, the famous Harlequin Rugby Footballer, has definitely de- cided to retire from the game.

It is over ten years ago sinco Gibbs Arst startled the Rugby world with his terrific turn of speed on the left wing, and since then he has scored hundreds of tries by sheer pace."

Gibbs, who played Soccer when at Queen's, Tauntoon, and halls from a well-known Bromley family. his brother "W.D" in the present [mayor-first played for Engländ in 1926 in the memorable match against the All Blacks, and gained his "cap" seven times in all,

Had he had a centre of the type of R. T. Gabe or E. D. G. Hammett he would have trebled

his number of "cape.”

Gibbs has captained Kent and last season he skippered the Harle- quius. Two years ago he was seriously ill and was out of the game for a long time, but on his re covery he soon showed he had lost none of his speed.

3.

His last match was for Kent jagainst Surrey at Maidstone, when he won the match with his three tries.
