16TH ANNIVERSARY OF RUSSIAN REVOLUTION

Moscow. To-day. "While striving for peace. the Soviet are compelled to take defensive measures," de- clared M. V. M. Molotov, Pre- sident of the Council of the People's Commissars, address- ing an important conference of the Moscow Soviel, yesterday, in connection with the six- teenth anniversary of the Ru- sian revolution.

the The Soviet policy in Far East was directed for peaceful relations with their neighbours, he said, but they must reckon with the events in Manchuria and the fact that the agreements concluded with the Soviet had been vi lated.

M. Molotov preferred to the "ridiculous plans of some of the Japanese statesmen in reference to the seizure of Siberia and the near coast region."

He added that the Soviet had strengthened the "Red" Army and, in case of attack would do everything to en-

sure

that the "Red" Army obtained a complete victory and the full destruction of their adversary.-Reuter.
