The "Bambino" made the announcement himself to-day and

for the first time in his career admitted it was no longer possible to demand high salary, partly as the home run king and partly as a .showman.

"I'm simply through as a player and this is my last season," Ruth said. "I know I have been slipping and I hope to finish out as a manager."

Several Y.M.C.A. swimming re- cords are expected to be shattered at the second annual swimming championships which take place to- night at the Y.M.C.A., commencing at 9 p.m. sharp.

The big event of the night will be the semi-final of the Men's 50 Yards Aggregate Handicap' for which there are three heats in which four competitors will parti cipate,

The Men's 50 Yards Champion- ship has only drawn four entries A. G. Donn, the present holder, E. W. Railton, E. F. Selk and R. B Wood.

It is expected to be a very clobe affair with Donn taking first place followed by Railton, Selk and ¡Wood. Wood, however, has dis

played excellent form of late and I should not be surprised if he fully extends the champion.

The Men's 220 Yards Cham pionship has again only drawn four entries. H, Lange, the present holder of the Y.M.C.A. record of 2 mins. 53 secs., will be defending his title against A. G. Donn, W. T. Campbell and E. Fullager.
