LAI PUN SHIN'S PROMISE
(By CRAWL)
Thrilling finishes and some very good times were returned at the heats of the Hong Kong Interna- tional Amateur Swimming Associa tion's gala, in the Y.M.C.A. pool, Kowloon, last night before a fair- ly large crowd of spectators.
The heats for the Team Race provided thrilling finishes, *5. pecially in the first heat when Leung Shui-man of the Chinese Bathing Club gave his team vie tury as the result of a brilliant re- covery in the last 25 yards of the race. He beat Chan Fook-sing (C.C.S.C.) by a touch after the latter's team had led throughoul the race by several yards.
Shek Kam-pul of the Young Companions Acquatic Associa tion carried off the honours of the day by swimming in three consecutive events to securre a place in each one of them.

in the first heat of the Yards Free Style. H. Lange of the European Y.M.C.A. swam a bril- liant race to beat Shek Kam-pui by a couple of feet in 61-1/5 secs. There is every likelihood of the Y.M.C.A. bath record being shat- tered on Saturday night.
Ozorio Swimy Well.
The second heat also provided a thrilling finish. H. L. Ozorio of the University, who led for the first three lengths by a yard, was beaten at the finish by Tsang Ho- fook of the Chinese Bathing Club by a touch after a thrilling laat length sprint.
Ozorio swam a fine race and with 巍 little improvement should get a place on Satur- day night.

The
doctor's decision that Clark was unfit has brought Macaulay, the Yorkshire fast bowler, into the side.
Clark took 10 for 61 against the West Indies to give Northants
a surprising innings victory earlier in the season-Reuter.
