Distress messages were picked up yesterday from the liner, stating that it was encountering a terrific storm while flying over the Ap- pennines, and from that moment nothing has been heard of the ma- chine and its seven occupants, four of whom are passengers and three the crew.
It is believed that the sero- plane crashed on the moun tain face owing to the bað visibility, or was wrecked in an attempt to make a forced
landing.
Throughout the day Italian and French pilots scoured ́the district where the aero- plane had given her last position, but no trace of the machine or its occupations was found."
