When war broke out ahe was commissioned as a transport by
the Canadian Army.
In the summer of 1915, while off Queenstown, the Megantie's look- out sighted a German submarine. A thrilling chase followed, but the
liner's superior speed and her master's skilful navigation enabled | her to outstrip the enemy. This was her sole narrow escape during the war.
She was converted into a cabin ship in 1924, and three years later) became a temporary transport once) more.
