220. 20 air-conditioning plants totalling 4,725 tons of refrigeration were in the design stage or being installed.
221. 69 installations of 1,515 tons total capacity were in operation reflecting the tendency to install central plants in large buildings initially instead of small units later in piecemeal fashion.
222. Private architects engaged for the construction of 4 magistracies, 2 clinics, a police station, a meteorological laboratory and a Government office building, sought advice on the design and installation of plant and equipment for air-conditioning. 763 domestic refrigerators were overhauled in the Electrical and Mechanical workshops.

224. 18,442 jobs were carried out compared with 17,059 in the previous year and the number of items of electrical plant rose to 30,029, an increase of 19%.
225. The runway and approach lighting system at Kai Tak Airport was completed by the contractors early in the year and accepted for maintenance. This installation which is of the most modern design possesses a unique feature in that the north west approach is the first curved approach in the world to be illuminated for scheduled night flying.
226. New items of equipment installed included two 45 H.P. motors for granulators, a bituminous macadam plant, 3 diesel generator sets, power and lighting wiring for 2 pumping stations and quarters, H.T. switchgear and transformers for the west wing of the Central Government Offices, floodlighting for the Causeway Bay fountain, 3 aircraft hazard beacons, public address system at the Kai Tak Airport
