International affairs were surveyed by the Foreign Secretary, Sir John Simon in a speech at Southampton last night. Referring to Disar- mament, he regretted that the Geneva Conference had been unable to make more rapid progress in its most difficult but most essential and urgent task. Britain, who had already made great reductions before the Conference began, was doing everything in her power to promote an effective international agreement.
