178. Those destined for the Crown Lands and Surveys Office are then given a further year's training on boundary surveys, investigation of title, and lease conditions for leases, surrenders and development.
179. Five of those earmarked to be assistant engineering surveyors were transferred to an engineering sub-department for training in engineering surveying.
180. The four Class III assistant land surveyors who sat for the 1959 promotion examination were all successful.
New Territories Cadastral Survey
181. 43 miles of control traverse were run to establish 735 permanent points and a further 320 points were fixed by resection and intersection.
182. 5,941 acres or 9.3 square miles of detail survey were completed involving 205 miles of detail traverse.
183. This survey is plotted at scale 1/1200 and standard survey sheet covers an area of approximately 200 acres. To date 163 survey sheets have been completed and are available for official purposes or sale to the public.

184. The 8" to 1 mile map of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Kowloon has been revised and redrawn.
185. The photographic and reproduction section produced a total of 53,748 prints by copycat, ammonia, deltaline, etc., took 3,187 photographs and printed 12,665 photo-prints.
186. Prints of survey sheets and plans are sold to the public on request. Total sales for the year amounted to $4,500.

GENERAL
187. This office, which was created in 1958 to plan and execute engineering works precedent to the rapid and large scale development of Crown lands, was able to undertake two new commitments in addition to the supervision of an outstanding contract, as well as the planning of four major schemes in conjunction with extensive site investigations and surveys.
