ARCTIC CITIES OF GERMANS

THE FUTURE.

Development In North Canada Anticipated.

TOURIST INTEREST.

Toronto,

Arctic towns and cities on the fringe of the Polar Ocean are B vision of the future, rendered pos- sible by the advent of aeroplanes.

Mr. Richard Finnic, the official archivist and photographer of the Canadian Arctic, who has travelled extensively in the far northland of the Dominion, believes that in the course of the next three or four

generations the nucleus of a new Dominion will come into being in the frozen north. "The Aeroplane"

In his opinion, "has changed the whole situation in the Arctic",

"The tourist" ho says," has be- gun to discover the Mackenzie River. There are 2,000 miles of magnificent waterway through ab solutely unspoiled country, to be travelled in comfort by acroplane, steamboat or canoe".

The Arctic climate, Mr. Finnte considera, la by no means unbear- able, "The summers are short, but warm and pleasant, The winters are cold, but I have suffered from cold in civilisation, wearing its ridiculously inadequate clothing". He is warm in his praise of the Eskimo.

PEA NUTS

Exports Rise.

SPAIN'S TRADE FLAGS

Berlin,

There has been an enormous growth in the consumption of pea nuts in Germany,

Paa-nuts are cheaper than 'other kinds of nuts, and they are in great demand among confectioners as a substitute for almonds, and also in the margarine industry.

India and Africa have seen the gainers by this change, as India

exports 4,000,000 double cwts a year to Germany; and Africa con- tributes 2,000,000 double cwtà,

All kinds of nuts are in demand and are flowing into Germany now in quantities which are a pleasing proof that at least this demand has not been affected by the deprça- slon.

Nearly all the nuts are imported. Turkey, Asia Minor, Italy and Rus- sin supplied 70 per cent. of the total last year. Spain, formerly a great exporter, was almost driven from the market. Walnuts come chiefly from Rumania and Yugoslavia, which for several years fought with France to capture the German mar- kot.

"Eskimos are not refrigerated, blubber-saturated savages, but happy, intelligent and hospitable South America is represented by people, the finest, most generous Brazil, which sends about 18,000 and most likeable of all uncultured double cwts of gob-nuts a year, racea."-Reuter.

An ingenious scheme has been devised by which a certain number of Hungarians should, visit Ger- many and have their expenses paid the same there, while in return number of Germans should visit Hungary on similar conditions.

The train on which the visitors arrived here has been dubbed the
