157. Outline development plans of Ngau Tau Kok Village and Cha Kwo Ling were approved in accordance with the Town Planning Ordinance. The draft plan prepared and exhibited in respect of Tai Hang Village, Causeway Bay involving comprehensive redevelopment of the area was not approved in the light of more pressing projects. An amendment to the zoning of Kowloon Planning area No. 2, Yau Ma Tei, was exhibited for public comment at the end of the year.
158. The Town Planning Board met on 9 occasions and continued its discussions on the development of all stages of the Reclamation, Admiralty and War Department lands in central Victoria and the planning of a number of areas on the mainland. Instructions were received from H.E. the Governor under section 3 of the Town Planning Ordinance to prepare a plan in respect of Sha Tin and district.
159. The supply of plans for official purposes continued to expand.
160. A report was prepared in conjunction with the Manager and Chief Engineer, Railway containing proposals for the removal of the existing railway terminal at Tsim Sha Tsui to a new reclamation at Hung Hom. These proposals have been approved in principle by Government but the timing of the move has yet to be decided.
161. Close liaison has been maintained with the New Territories Administration in connexion with numerous schemes falling within its jurisdiction, and with the Roads Office in connexion with road improvements in the built-up areas of the Colony.
162. Numerous discussions took place with the Consultants concerned with the proposed cross-harbour vehicular traffic link.
Government and Community Requirements-Forward Planning
163. Consultations have continued with various Government departments regarding the provision of sites for their own particular purposes and for general community purposes for which they are responsible. In particular reviews of requirements for education, medical, fire and police services were carried out; investigations were made for the establishment of new public parks and open spaces and planning advice was given on numerous applications for purchase of land for private development. Close liaison has been maintained with the various organizations responsible for low cost housing and sites have been selected for the continued expansion of Resettlement, Housing Society, Housing Authority and other low cost housing programmes.
