Community Centres

SOCIAL WELFARE BUILDINGS

83. World Refugee Year Funds were made available for the construction of a Community Centre at Wong Tai Sin Resettlement Estate. A rapid start on this project was made possible by a decision to adapt the plans of a standard twenty-four-classroom primary school which, with the addition of cooking facilities for the preparation of communal meals, and some other amendments, adequately meet the requirements of a community centre and provide convenient units of accommodation for allocation by the Director of Social Welfare to the various voluntary societies who will use the Centre for Welfare work. The Wong Tai Sin Building is nearing completion.

84. Subsequently, further funds became available for a Community Centre at Tsuen Wan, and tenders have been invited for site formation and piling contracts.
