RESETTLEMENT BUILDINGS

56. On November 26th, H.E. the Officer Administering the Government formally opened Block 'L' at Wong Tai Sin, the one hundredth Resettlement domestic block to be completed.

57. The first multi-storey Resettlement block was completed in September 1954, and though several improvements of a minor nature have been incorporated in subsequent blocks, the basic design remains unchanged.

58. The most recent improvement has been the enclosure of the two courtyards of the H-block by a screen wall and staircase; this will not only provide some degree of privacy to the courtyard but increases the number of rooms on each floor by four, and provides scope for improved elevational treatment. Tenders recently received for estates to which this amendment has been incorporated show no increase in cost.
