After nearly four years of residence at Flagstaff House, in the office of General Onicer Commanding the British Troops in China, Major-General James Walter Bandilands, C.D., G.M.G., D.8.0., a popular officer, left the Colony for Home on board the P. & 0, s.s. Kaiser-I-Hind on December - 31. The official farewell took place at Queen's Statue Fier, where His Excellency the G.O.C. met many friends. Cap- tain R. F. Walter, A.D.C. to H.E. the Governor, was present, as was the new G.O.C., Major-General O. C. Borrett

An appeal for the health of the young was made by Sir Shou-son Chow, who presided at the annual meeting of the Society for the Protection of Gruelty to Chlidren; on Decem- ber 28. Sir Shou-son spoke of the extension of the work of the Society and dealt highly on the Welfare Centre, which was started only seven months ago.

On the motion of Sir Willam Shenton, the office of Direc tor of the Society was created for Mr. T. M. Hazlerigg
