2 MOSLEMS, 1 HINDU, KILLED; MANY INJURED,

Bombay, To-day.

Two Moslems and one Hindu were killed and 20 Hindus, five Moslems and one Parsee were injured in a riol resulting from Hindu children playing cricket in a slum area.

The trouble began when a Pa-| than passer-by was struck by the ball. When he threatened the children he was challenged by m Hindu watchman. Words turn- ed to blows, and the rival com- munities gathered in force.. Aj guerilla hattle developed, stones, knives and sticks being freely used in the narrow streets.

The trouble spread over a wide area, two tramears, two miles apart being stopped and the passengers dragged out. Those who were unable to escape were stabbed.

The panic spread to the main streets, where shops and restau- rants were hastily closed and shuttered.

As a result of energetic police action the situation is now under control.

The riots follow Yesterday incident when two Moslems, who were among 1,000 refugees who were taking shelter from coin- munal disturbances outside the Juma-alusjid, one of the largest marble mosques in the world, were injured when a tomb ex- ploded nearby."

NEW NAVY MINISTER AT TOKYO

(From Our Own Correspondent).

SHANGHAI, TO-DAY.

PENDING FURTHER INDICATION OF JAPANESE INTEN« | TIONS IN NORTH CHINA, THE SITUATION IN REGARD TO` THE SHANHAIKUAN INCIDENT SHOWS LITTLE CHANGE, AND NO FURTHER FIGÁTING IS REPORTED. A STIFFEN- ING OF CHINESE OPINION IS ÉVIDENT AND PROMINENT LEADERS HAVE DECLARED THAT THEY WILL RESIST FUR- THER JAPANESE AGGRESSION.

Although Japanese troops are fortifying Shanhaikuan there is no indication of an immediate invasion of Peiping or Tientsin, and some quarters interpret the Japanese move as one directed against Marshal Chang Hsueh-liang for the purpose of checking his support

of the Volunteers in Manchuria..

The only event of significance in Tokyo is the replacement of Navy Minister Okada by Admiral Osumi, thus renewing the Araki-

Osumi combination which dictated Japan's militarist policy during the Shanghai hostilities.
