Saint Nazaire, France. France's candidate for the At- lantic blue ribbon, the 79,000-ton liner Normandie, was launched here in the presence of President Albert Lebrun and a crowd of |50,000 persons. Mme. Lebrun eut the traditional cord and, christened the world's largest liner, with the world's largest bottle of cham.

When she enters the service, the Normandie will replace the Paris. The directors of the French Line hope that, by that time, the shipping crisis, which. has resulted in the laying up of 768,000 of the 3,500,000 French tonnage, will

Sir Samuel Wilson, Permanent Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies, arrived at Hong Kong on December 15 on the as Ranchi from Singapore, after a month's stay in Malaya, where he has been looking into the decentralisa- tlon question. On his arrival he explained to press repre- sentatives the reason for his visit to Hong Kong. Sir Samuel spoke in glowing terms of the beauty of Hong Kong before speaking of his activities in Malaya and his pro- gramme after leaving Hong Kong.

On arrival Sir Samuel and Lady Wilson, were met by Captain R. F. Walter, A.D.C. to His Excellency the Governor.

Chairs and tables were swung as weapons when a party of Chinese youths fought' with Europeans in the Majestic Cabaret, Des Voeux Road, on December 15 and the Police Emergency Unit was called to the scene to restore order.. There were no arrests and no one was seriously injured, There are several theories as to the cause of the fight.” The assistant manager and a dancing instructor were the two Europeans most conspicuous and four young Chinese were their antagonists. Two of the Chinese were battered about the face but the Europeans suffered no hurt. ⠀⠀⠀

A lecture on Christian Science was under the auspices of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Hong Kong, In the Jacobean Room of the Hong Kong Hotel on December 15, by William Wallace Porter, C.S.B, of New York, member of the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston.

The speaker was introduced by Mrs. Katheryn Watson, First Reader.
