Thrills and spills featured the last race meeting of the year at Happy Valley on December 10, Although three riders were thrown from Australian ponies during the after- noon, no serious injuries were sustained, Mr. Leo Frost and Mr. S. N. Pan, two of the unfortunates, riding in later races. Mr. A. W. da Koza, was the other victim, and he was not seen in the saddle again during the afternoon. The three Autumn Champions events provided no surprises, the favourite winning in all three races. Mr. Frost won both China ponies' Champions, but in the Queensland Autumn Champions, his mount, The Giraffe, juraped the rails and threw him, leaving the field to Polar Star, the favourite, and Lucy Glitters.

The Legislative Council concluded its last meeting of the year on December 8, when His Excellency the Governor, Sir William Peel, spoke briefly, but on a hopeful note, of the prospects ahead of Hong Kong and with gratification for the year just past. The time was fitting, he said, at the last meeting of the year to express to members of Council his appreciation of the advice and criticism they had given. „

After being exposed for three days to biting cold winds and heavy seas in a disabled fishing Junk, four Chinese fishermen were picked up by the Ellerman and Bucknall liner, 88. City of Rangoon on December 9
They were rescued only in the nick of time, as their boat. was rudderless and on the verge of sinking, while the food and water supplies were most exhausted. The men went out fishing on December 5, in squally weather. They were accompanied by several other boats of the Swatow fishing fleet
