CORDUROY
COATS
Short tailored coats made of corduroy are rather a problem toj keep clean, ne they soft rather quickly. The coat need not, how- ever, be sent away to be cleaned,' as it washes surprisingly well, and the process can be easily undetaken at home.
The Woman's Page
The garment should be squeezed in warm soapy water, i using two or three waters, until the! coat is clean. Finally rinse it in lukewarm water, making sure that no trace of soap remains,. Corduroy ahould never be wrung, but hung: out on the line wringing wet and shaken frequently. The nap will be restored if it is brushed with fairly stiff brush when perfectly dry. Any stubborn marks will come jout if they are scrubbed with. E

CEREALS' ORIGIN LOST IN AGES.'
Whence Came Your Breakfast Food.
The cereals on which we rely for food have been cultivated for auch countless ages that their origina have been lost, and their native iland, where once they must have!
Nobody grown wild is unknown.
knows where wheat, barley, and oata were first cultivated. Nobody knows which nation brought the rose, the illy, and the lilac to per- fection.
All plants must have had a bogin- ning, but even the East, which la considered the eradlo of the waril, Icannot account for some of them. So certain authorities have gone (back beyond history, into the mythi-| cal ages, to find the origin of wheat, the lily, the Illac, the banane, and other ancient plants.
The borse is the animal-of mys- tery. When did it lose the five toes that are still visible in its skelaton? Who domesticated it, and brought| it to its present size? The skeletons of little horses, the size of a fox, and [still retaining some of their five toes, have been found in America. And it is to the West that some
Agents:-W. R. LOXLEY & CO. researchers have gone to trace the
origin of things which have always Ibeen old in the East."
